Book Review: EIGHTH GRADE BITES

Eighth Grade Bites by Heather Brewer was a great quick read.

Okay, so all of you that think this book is 'goth', you are totally judging this book by it's cover! It's not. It's about this kid in eighth grade that is half-vampire, half-human. It's about his life in school. He struggles keeping his secret a secret, especially when his English teacher is missing and this crazy substitute steps in. His name is Mr. Otis, and he focuses on mythology. Anyways, this book is funny the whole way through and is suspenseful at the end. It's a very short book- only 186 pages- but it's so worth it! Read it, and you won't regret it!!!

Rating: :0) :0) :0) :0) :0) 5 out of 5 smileys
Would I recommend this to a friend?: Yeah, especially one with a good sense of humor.

Book Review: LINGER

Linger by Maggie Stiefvater is the sequel to Shiver. It was a great book, just as good as the first.

One of the new wolves, Cole, struggles with memories of his past. Grace rebels against her parents. The love between Grace and Sam grows throughout the book. A new theory is proposed regarding the future of Grace, Sam, and the wolves of Mercy Falls. If you enjoyed Shiver, this continuation will not let you down.

The end is a killer, though- it's such a huge cliffhanger!!! It's something you would never think of, something that makes you want to scream, "No! Everything was fine the way it was before!!!" The third and final book in this trilogy, Forever, comes out sometime in 2011. I can't wait!

Rating: :0) :0) :0) :0) :0) 5 out of 5 smileys. I loved it!

Would I recommend it to a friend?: Only if they've read Shiver, obviously.

Harry Potter 7, Part 1

This morning I saw the first part of Harry Potter 7 in theaters. It was awesome! It ends on a climactic scene, but since I've read the books I know what happens. I'm really glad that they stuck to the book for most of it. I hope the second part is this good!

So, it's almost December! And the countdown to Christmas begins.....

UPDATE: I am almost done reading Linger, the sequel to Shiver. There is a third book coming out next year I think, called Forever. I will write a review as soon as I finish it!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Okay, so I know that this is one day late, big whoop. Anyways, happy holidays, people!!! My Christmas Tree goes up today, and I've already decorated my bedroom. I hung tons of paper snowflakes from my ceiling with string and tape. It looks so cool!!!

It's Black Friday! All those crazy people getting up at midnight to get those toys that they just can't live without. Those silly crazies....

A few days ago I got the album Speak Now by Taylor Swift on my iPod. It's really good, so if you haven't gotten it yet and you're interested in that kind of stuff, you really should!!! Oh, and this weekend I'm going to see the Harry Potter movie. It better blow me away! hehe!

It's really rainy and wet and foggy and grey outside today. I'll just sit here and listen to Christmas music on the radio. Where I am there are about 4 stations that play Christmas music until Christmas!!! Yay! I love it!!!

So, I hope you guys enjoy your weekend!

Cheers,

Book Review: SHIVER

Last night I finished reading Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. This book was incredibly awesome!

This book is about seventeen year old Grace. She lives with her parents, but they aren't around most of the time and they don't pay any attention to her. Grace was bitten by the wolves in her backyard forest when she was younger, and ever since then she has been obsessed with this one wolf with yellow eyes. I can't really give anymore details, because that would be ruining the book for all of you, but this obsession with wolves leads to some pretty amazing stuff.
Shiver is suspenseful, super romantic, out of the box, touching, sad, heart-felt, and so much more. I loved this book, and the ending is SO AWESOME!!! I loved it!!!!!!

Rating: :0) :0) :0) :0) :0) 5 out of 5 stars

Would I recommend it to a friend?: Of course!

Harry Potter and Other Stuff....

Hey people!!!!!!!!

Just wanted to remind you all the in the U.S., Part 1 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie starts playing in theaters tomorrow!!!!

Okay, so here's a fact: If the sea level rises one meter, the country of Bangladesh will shrink by 18%.

So, you're asking yourself, how and why does she know this? Well, I have to do this global warming research project for my science class, and I had to focus on Bangladesh. So that's why you people should care about global warming!!! Recycle and try not to waste or use excess fossil fuels. Think about how many people will lose their homes if the sea level rises! Please, care about the Earth!!!!!!!

Anyways, Thanksgiving is next week in the U.S., and we all know what that means: FOOD!!!!! Yup, there will be plenty of pavo to go around. By the way, pavo means turkey in Spanish! I learned that earlier this week.

Yeah, so I have to study for me Algebra test tomorrow....yay for numbers!!!! *rolls eyes sarcastically* Let's just say that math isn't my favorite subject, but it isn't my least favorite subject, either. It's somewhere in the middle. Some days I like it, and some days.....well, I'd rather be rambling on and on to you guys about random stuff.

Moving on to last week's poll. 3 people agreed with me by saying that it would be okay, but not the greatest and that they'd deal with it. On the other hand, 2 people said that they would be outraged. I'm not sure what those results mean or if they even prove anything......and I'm okay with that! Thanks for voting!!!!!!

Ooh la la,

Book Review: CITY OF THE BEASTS

Last week I finished City of the Beasts by Isabel Allende.

This book was about a boy named Alexander Cold, who goes to live with his adventurous grandmother, Kate. He can't stay at home with his family, because his mother is sick with cancer. Kate is hired to go to the Amazon and write an article about The Beast, a legendary Yeti. Alex meets a girl and they soon become friends, and then the group sets out for their journey.

I found this book to be very.....um....unique. It seemed very unrealistic, and it wasn't at all what I thought it would be. Some parts were suspenseful and interesting, while other moments were just dull and boring. Don't get me wrong, it was a good book...just not one of the best.

Rating: :0) :0) :0) Sorry, but I have to give it 3 out of 5 smileys.

Would I recommend it to a friend?: Well, that depends. I would probably give it to someone younger than me, but not TOO young, because there are some violent parts....hmm.....

Sorta disappointed,

Book Review: WICKED GIRLS

Wicked Girls by Stephanie Hemphill takes place during the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Seven girls, ranging in age from eight to eighteen years old, all pretend that they are constantly tortured by witches. They accuse people over and over of being witches, leading to many people being hanged and several others locked in prison. They have to work hard to keep their lie alive..

If you are into historical fiction or the Salem Witch Trials, this is the book for you. It is written 100% in poems, which makes it sort of confusing. It is also written in the way they would've talked back then, and there are some words that I had to look up in a dictionary. Overall, though, this was a really enjoyable read.

Rating: :0) :0) :0) :0) 4 out of 5 smileys

Would I recommend it to a friend?: Only to one who enjoys reading poetry. If you don't 'get' poetry, you might want to try another book.
Oh yeah,

Trans-Siberian Orchestra Concert

Last night I went to my 2nd Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert, and let me tell you, it was SO INCREDIBLY AWESOME!!! My mom and I had amazing seats. We were on the side but only 8 rows up from the floor, and we were so close to the stage! I got some awesome pictures! It was a great show!

So, today is a Monday. This week my school district has Thursday and Friday off. This is because Thursday is Veteran's Day and Friday is a professional developement day. In other words, the teachers have to sit in meetings all day and learn stuff while we get the day off. Of course, they make up for it by giving us double the homework. But, on the bright side, we have a FOUR DAY WEEKEND!!! Yay!!!!!

I don't really have anything else to write about.... I will be posting a book review or two soon, so that should be good.

Peace,
Aceba

Just Another Blog Post

Happy Friday, peeps! It's November, and I'm really busy from now until, like, January. Here are some things I'm looking forward to:
  • On Sunday I'm going to a Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert. Don't know who they are? Look them up. I went to their concert last year, and it was so totally wicked AWESOME! Can't wait!!!
  • On the 19th the 1st part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (the 7th HP movie, in case you guys don't keep track) and I am SO SUPER-DUPER EXCITED!!!!!! I've read all the books and I've been waiting for this for a long time. Oh, I can't wait to see it in theaters!!
  • Thanksgiving. Duh! You get to eat tons of food, spend time with family, and we get a 5 day weekend!!! Who wouldn't look forward to it????
  • Christmas!!!!!!!!! I don't think I need to explain this one.

So, yeah. Today was a good day. My dad finally got around to taking the air conditioner out of my bedroom window. Of course, I have a lot of weekend homework- which I kind of don't understand, 'cuz what's the point of having days off from school if we have to do work?- but I'm trying to look past that and stay positive. Hope you guys (and when I say guys I mean all genders) had a great Friday and I hope you have a great weekend. If you don't have homework, I am extremely jealous and I really wish I was you right now. If you have homework, well, welcome to the club and I feel your pain.

I'm running out of closing phrases,

It's Day of the Dead!

Happy Day of the Dead everyone!

Oh...wait, you don't know what that is?

Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday that I learned about last week in Spanish class. It's a day when Spanish people honor and remember their loved ones and friends that have passed away. They make offerings and light candles and eat lots of food to celebrate. To us, this may sound like a somber holiday, but it is actually a very happy one. People make candy sugar skeletons and carry bigs bundles of flowers along the streets and have parties and sit all night in graveyards. How cool does that sound?

By the way, you might have noticed the new picture and caption on the side bar there. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien is finally becoming a movie!!! You have NO idea how LONG I've been waiting for this! And I'm pretty sure Peter Jackson is directing it, which is AWESOME because he directed the other three Lord of the Rings movies too! I heard a rumor that it's supposed to be in 3D, but I'm not sure. he he he!!! Can't wait to see it in theaters in 2012!!!!

Before I forget: isn't this font cool???

Hugs,
Aceba
