NaNoWriMo!!!

Are any of you guys doing NaNoWriMo this year? If you don't know what that is, it stands for National Novel Writing Month, and it happens every November. The goal is to write an entire novel (or about 50,000 words) in just one month. This is my first year attempting it, and I was wondering if anyone else was also participating.

To find out more about NaNoWriMo you can go to www.nanowrimo.org.

Did you miss me?

You may have noticed that I have not posted for the past week or so. This is because I just got back from Disney World this morning (WOOT WOOT!). I love Disney World. Everyone is so carefree and the cast members are always telling you to "Have a magical day!" whether you want to or not. Although, I do have to say that after a while the happiness starts to get to you. You start to wonder how these people can possibly be happy all the time, or if they are this joyful when they are not working in a large theme park/resort. After seven days of almost getting hit with toddler-transporting strollers, eating fast food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and watching oblivious children hug Disney characters that are actually people inside big costumes, you get kind of tired. Needless to say, even though I had an awesome time on my vacation, I am happy to be home.

I will be posting more reviews shortly, so stay tuned for those. I tried to read often while I was away, but it didn't really work out. I planned to do most of my reading on the plane to and from Disney World, but instead I ended up watching reruns of Dog the Bounty Hunter during the flight. (I love Dog. He's my obsession.) But don't worry! I did manage to do some reading during the week in the hotel I stayed in, so we're all good!

the HUNGER GAMES movie

So, I haven't gone to see the Hunger Games movie yet, but I will soon. I've been hearing mixed reviews on it, and I was wondering what you guys think if you have seen it. Did you like it? Did they stick to the plot of the book? Let me know what you think in the comments!!!

Leap Day!

Hey! It's Leap Day! I love Leap Day because it really makes you think. For instance, thinking about Leap Day made me realize that when the next one occurs in four more years I will have already graduated from high school. Isn't that crazy? Well, it might not be for you, but it is for me!

This week is my February vacation, and so far I have thoroughly enjoyed my time off from school. I hate to say it, but it's true. A lot of adults have told me that my years in high school will be some of the best years of my life. Well, from all that I have experienced, this is not the case. High school for me has consisted mainly of stress and drama and bad teachers and homework and a lot of other stuff that I am not overly fond of.

The thing about high school is that you have to deal with four times as much drama as you did in middle school and all the years before that. In middle school (at least at my middle school) each grade is sort of in their own little world. You have different hallways, different classes, different teachers, different everything. This large amount of separation means that overall, you really only have to deal with the drama that occurs within your own grade level.

But in high school, everything changes. Freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors are all mixed together all day long- same classes, same hallways, same lunch times, same teachers, etc. This means that at the end of the day, you are ultimately dealing with drama from all four grades. The drama itself is stupid, but it's also distracting and annoying and it's all people ever want to talk about! I'll be trying to have a conversation about books or schoolwork or whatever and they'll be like, "Have you heard that so-and-so broke up with her boyfriend?" And I just want to shout, "I DON'T CARE!!!"

Ten years from now, it won't matter who was going out with who, or what rumors people were spreading. What will matter is who you become and how you choose to spend your life. If you choose to spend the rest of your life gossiping, then by all means, get a head start now. But if you're hoping to do something productive and meaningful in the future, then stop arguing over whether that girl is pregnant or just fat! Stop spreading stupid rumors and poking fun at others and worrying about your social status! You can have fun and hang out with your friends and still have good grades and be a good person. Some people may think it's impossible or completely unachievable, but it definitely is not.

So this post that was supposed to be about Leap Day has turned into a rant about high school... sorry about that. And I hate to sound all negative, because some things have come out of high school as well. I've gotten closer to my friends and I've made new ones, and I've actually met some nerdfighters, which is amazingly cool. So maybe high school isn't all bad. It's just different.

Where will I be on the next Leap Day? I hope it's somewhere really awesome, with a library not very far away.

Yours,
NutFreeNerd

MY BOOKCASE!!!!!!!!

I just realized that I never shared with you guys my new bookcase. Well, I'll just have to fix that....
So, here is my bookcase! (Please ignore my scarves and stuff off to the left there...) Pretty snazzy, I know... and yes, those are indeed Christmas lights. ;)

My plan for organizing all of my books was to assign each shelf a genre. Then, all of the books on that shelf would be of that genre. This was great in theory, until I realized that I had way more books in some genres than one shelf could hold, and that I only have like two books in another genre. So I scratched that plan and sort of organized them by genre, just not by shelf. (If you're thinking that I put way too much effort into this than I had to, then you are correct.) Let me give you the detailed tour.
At the tippity-top, above the first shelf, we have my miniature chairs. If you watch the Vlogbrothers' videos on Youtube.com, you will notice that John Green has tiny chairs on his bookshelves as well. If you do not watch the Vlogbrothers, go watch them! They are hilarious!

Anyways, these chairs were a gift from my friend. Thanks, friend!!! :0)

Under the chairs on the top shelf we have my all time favorite books series. These would be Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling and Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. There are some other books by J.R.R. Tolkien/concerning Lord of the Rings mixed in there as well. To the right I also have The Golden Compass trilogy by Phillip Pullman. The Golden Compass isn't necessarily one of my very favorite series, but it fit on the shelf, so that's where it's gonna stay!

The second-highest book shelf holds some of my fantasy books. This includes The Underland Chronicles by Suzanne Collins, The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series by Michael Scott, The Secret Series by Pseudonymous Bosch, The Mysterious Benedict Society series by Trenton Lee Stewart, etc.

This book shelf is half fantasy, half science fiction. The fantasy portion of this shelf includes books such as Eragon by Christopher Paolini, The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo, and Wicked by Gregory Maguire. The science fiction half of this shelf contains books like Lies and Plague by Michael Grant, Angel by James Patterson, and Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. Note: I do realize that on the fence between fantasy and sci-fi is a disturbing novel- New Moon by Stephenie Meyer. Please understand that this is left over from my Twilight phase when I was in sixth grade. This was a short phase that, I am proud to say, has not carried with me through the years.

The next shelf holds my contemporary YA books. This includes the Pretty Little Liars series by Sara Shepard, Paper Towns/Looking for Alaska/An Abundance of Katherines by John Green, and Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen, just to name a few.
The second-to-last shelf of my bookcase is sort of a mish-mash of a bunch of different genres. There's a little contemporary YA (like Please Don't Be True by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor) and some historical fiction (such as Distant Waves by Suzanne Weyn) and a few classics (including Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen) and various other miscellaneous books. Like I said, it's a little bit of everything.
The very last shelf of my bookcase is pretty bare. All that's there are some DVDs and a few magazines. The DVDs include all three Lord of the Rings movies and Part 2 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. My magazines, as you can see from the picture to the right, are Seventeen. I still haven't decided what else to add to this shelf. I think as I get more books I'll have to expand and use the bottom shelf, so I guess I'm just waiting until then.
And that concludes our tour of my new bookcase! Sorry that this post was REALLY REALLY long- I just couldn't wait to tell you guys about it. Do you have a cool way of organizing your bookcase? Leave a comment!

Yours,
Aceba

Less than a year until the world ends!

Not really. Unless you believe in all that the-world-is-going-to-end-in-2012 stuff. Personally, I just think the Mayans got tired of making their calendar and decided to stop. But that's just me. Either way, the world better not end in 2012, because that would mean never finding out how the Gone series by Michael Grant ends, which would be AWFUL! Seriously, think of all the things we wouldn't get to experience if the world ended in 2012.......scary.

Anyways, I hope you all had a great Christmas/whatever-holiday-you-celebrate! I got a NOOK Tablet, which is AWESOME! If any of you are looking into getting a NOOK, get the tablet!!!! You won't regret it!!!!

Only a few more days until New Year's Day..... where did the time go??? Next year I promise that I will do a lot more posting and reviewing on this blog. PROMISE!!!!! ;) I already have a stack of books just waiting to be read in 2012.

If I don't post again until after Sunday, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! :D

Only a week left!!!

Hello everyone! There is only one week left until Christmas, and I am extremely excited!!!! Of course, if you don't celebrate Christmas, I would like to wish you a happy Whatever-Holiday-You-Celebrate!

Anyways, what did you all ask for for Christmas? I asked for a Nook Tablet, because they are just way too cool! Has it snowed yet where you guys live? We don't have any snow here, but it's really cold. It doesn't really feel like Christmas time, but I guess that's okay.

Look at this awesome picture I found on the internet the other day:
Isn't that great? I especially like the last one. :0)

I know that this has kind of been a really random post, but I'm tired and don't know what else to talk about.

100 Books!!!!!!!

Hello everyone! If you live in the U.S., I hope you had an awesome (and yummy) Thanksgiving!!!! I just wanted to say that I have FINALLY reached my goal of reading 100 books in 2011! I've had no school for the past few days due to the Thanksgiving holiday, so I've been reading like a mad-woman. To see a complete list of the books I've read so far this year, go to the 2011 Booklist page. I'm planning to read at least two or three more books this year, so I'll still be adding on to the list.

What were your reading goals for 2011? Are you ahead, on track, or way behind? Let me know! I love hearing about other people's reading adventures. Also, what do you think you reading goal will be for 2012? I'm still deciding whether or not I want to increase my goal, keep it the way it is, or lessen it. I'll probably keep it the way it is.

I have a lot of reviews to finish writing and to post, so stay tuned!

I MISSED IT!!!!!!

Oh my gosh I can't believe I missed it!!!
Today was 11/11/11!!!! And I didn't find out about this until like five minutes ago!! I wanted to do something really cool at 11:11 AM on 11/11/11, but now I can't! :(
Did any of you do anything cool for 11/11/11????
I'm going to now take the time to tell you all that I GOT A NEW BOOKCASE!!!! I am extremely happy about this because I have never had a floor-to-ceiling bookcase before, and now I have one in my bedroom! I spent all day today painting it white (I know, a boring color, but what can I say? My bedroom is bright enough as it is.) I'm letting it dry over night and then I will put all my books on it tomorrow. I can't wait!!! :0)
Only one more book to go until I reach my goal of 100 books read in 2011!!!! How are you guys doing on your reading goals???

Aceba

Snow in October, among many things...

Hello everyone! First, I would like to thank you all for all of the kind comments I have been recieving lately. I so appreciate everyone who reads this blog and takes time to comments on my posts. So, THANK YOU! :0)

Next on the agenda...

IT SNOWED IN OCTOBER!!!!!

A few days before Halloween we got about 1 to 2 inches of snow where I live. I couldn't believe it! I mean, I do really like winter, but on the other hand I really really really like autumn!!! I wish we could have had more fall. It feels like we are being forced into winter waaaaaayyyy too soon. Did any of you get snow?

Speaking of Halloween, I hope you all had fun dressing up in costumes and trick-or-treating and whatnot. I myself did not partake in trick-or-treating this year, but I did watch Paranormal Activity 1 and 2 with my friends. Let me tell you, those are the best scary movies EVER!!!!!! Even though they are rated R, there is only a little bit of foul language and hardly any violence at all. All of the scariness comes mainly from suspense. Honestly, I have no idea why they are even rated R.

Anyways, I am really sorry that I haven't been posting a lot lately. I know I promised that I would post more frequently, but I am just so busy that I haven't gotten around to it. This time I REALLY promise that I will post more often!

Aceba

It's Monday...

Hey! Today I have the day off from school, so I am getting caught up on all of my posting. Sorry I haven't been posting a lot lately- I've been so super busy that I'm lucky I've had time to read. I think I mentioned this before, but my science teacher insists on giving us tons of homework every week. I don't know if she thinks science is the only class we have or that we are okay with devoting our lives to her class, but either way she is WRONG. When I grow up I don't want to go into the science field, so why do I have to spend all of this time on science??? Seriously. Something is wrong with American school system.

I just finished reading Pride and Prejudice last night. Boy, that book took me a long time to read. All of the wording is complex, the vocabulary isn't what I'm used to, and they call everyone by their last name, even when there are multiple people with the last name. For example, there are five Bennet sisters, and everyone calls them all Ms. Bennet, and you don't know which one they are referring to. It's so confusing. Besides that, it was very good. I will be posting a full review shortly.

Right now I am reading The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen, because after Pride and Prejudice I definitely need a quick and easy read.

Guess what???? The Death Cure by James Dashner comes out tomorrow!!! I am sooooo excited!!! It is the last book in the amazing trilogy that contained The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials. I cannot wait to get my hands on that book!!!

By the way, how awesome does that cover look???? Pretty awesome, if you ask me!!!!

So, what have you all been reading lately??? Anything good??? Let me know if there are any books you want me to read or review.

I hope you guys are having a great start of the school year!

Yours,
Aceba

I'm Back!!!!

Hello everybody!!!! I'm really sorry that I haven't posted in a while- I have been so busy with school work that I haven't had much time for anything lately. Why must teachers give so much homework??? Seriously. I've been spending 10 plus hours every week on science homework alone. That much science isn't healthy for anyone. :)

Anyways, I promise that I will make a bigger effort to post more often this week. I have been reading- don't you worry about that! I have plenty of books that I have to review, so you should be seeing those soon. Thanks!

Happy September!

School is here

It's that time of year again!!! Make sure you have plenty of pencils and pens, because you're gonna need 'em!

Ugh. So, normally I enjoy school- I'm not going to lie. I'm a huge nerd. But lately there has been one thing that's been holding my love of school at bay.

Homework.

Yeah, I kind of get the concept of homework. You know, reinforcing what we've learned and practicing some more. But I don't get the need for hours and hours of homework at a time. We have lives!!!!

How much homework do you guys get??? I hope it's less than I receive!

Anyways, I'm sorry that I haven't posted in a little bit. I've been busy with school and stuff, and I just haven't gotten the chance. I promise that I will post again sometime this week!

So sad.

The other day I went to the movie theater with my friends to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in IMAX 3D. Let me tell you, that movie is AMAZING!!!!!!! They did change a few  details from the books, but it worked to the movie's advantage, so it's all good. I was laughing and crying and feeling happy and sad all at once while watching it. To me, this is by far the best movie in the series!

Despite the pure awesomeness of the movie, I am very sad. After all these years of reading Harry Potter and watching the movies and waiting expectantly for the ending, it feels like the ending has come too soon. I started reading the series when I was in second grade, and it's been a huge part of my life ever since. To see this fantastic series of books and movies finally come to an end.... well, it sort of feels like losing a close friend. *tears* But I know that as fans of Harry Potter, we will continue to keep these characters alive in our own lives.

I encourage you to go out and see the movie- you won't regret it! And if you haven't read the series yet- WELL, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???? Your public library most likely has all of them (really, what's a library without the Harry Potter series) so go there right now and check out as many of them as your library allows!!!!!!!!

It's good to be back...

Hi people! Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I went camping with my family for a week, and I didn't have access to a computer or anything. I have to say, though I do love camping, it's very good to be back!!!

I have a lot of posts to create and put up, but don't worry, I'll get there!!!
